In February 2023, the Council approved a field trial for new bike lanes to Middle Avenue (“Middle”) and chose a design that eliminates all street parking between El Camino and Olive Street plus two thirds of the off-street parking near the Nealon Park playground and tennis courts. Some bicyclists are uncomfortable passing the small number of parked vehicles on Middle, and many parents with young children want bike lanes. So, I support adding them. The central question for me is what bike lane design makes the most sense given so much parking could be sacrificed?
I have published three different analyzes of the is project
